The Importance Of A Healthy Heart: A Guide To A Better Lifestyle

Looking after your health is crucial in order to enjoy a happy, active, and fulfilling life. Your good health keeps you alive, and your heart is the organ that is central to your existence. With this in mind, it’s time to begin all you can to keep your heart happy and able to support you effectively.

Before you begin to alter your diet for the better and schedule time to workout in the week, you must prioritise giving up bad habits. These include smoking, drinking alcohol, and relying on fast food for emotional comfort.

Get The Vitamins You Need

Vitamin deficiencies can cause you to feel sluggish, grumpy, and weak. These are all states that can prevent you from having the energy to cook instead of ordering takeaway, and to get up off the sofa and go to the gym. Start by taking supplements that nourish your body with the necessary supplies of iron (for tiredness and anaemia), for example, as well as vitamin D, vitamin C, magnesium, and calcium.

Control Cholesterol

High cholesterol is often caused by having a poor diet and eating saturated fats like those found in animal products, red meats, and full-fat dairy products. It means that your blood contains excessive levels of lipids (fats), and these can affect how well your heart is able to function.

Reducing your red meat intake is hugely beneficial advice, and there seems to be very few, if any, positives to eating red meat. You can consume bountiful protein from the likes of eggs, chicken breast, nuts and seeds, legumes and beans, and wholegrains.

Get Your Blood Pumping

A sedentary lifestyle is linked to a variety of health complaints. Without proper and consistent exercise, your chance of developing coronary heart disease significantly increases. Inactivity is linked to elevated cholesterol levels and high blood pressure with the latter being a leading cause of strokes.

Those who fail to exercise regularly are far more likely to be overweight or obese, and excess weight is thought to increase your chances of high blood sugar, certain cancers, and heart disease.

It’s important that you’re able to recognise sedentary behaviour and do something about it before it’s too late. Not exercising enough and being inactive can be disastrous for your health, so ensure that you get at least thirty minutes of exercise each day. This can be in the form of low impact sports such as cycling, swimming, and walking, or playing outside with your kids or dog, or even cleaning the house thoroughly.

Manage Stress

Elevated levels of stress can really take its toll on your heart health, which is why it’s so important to make time to relax after a long day, let your chest untighten, breathe deeply, and get an early night sleep. Focus on avoiding alcohol in order to take the edge off a stressful day as doing so can have further adverse effects on your heart, sleeping routine, and cognitive function.
